Candice Burningham
FOUNDER
After coming back to Australia from the UK in August of 2021, Candice saw a gap in the market for a niche job board and community support network dedicated to the administrative industry in Australia. This led her to create Admin Avenues – Australia’s first premiere marketplace for admin professionals.
In 2023, Candice saw an opportunity to acquire a membership group to grow the Admin Avenues community globally. She acquired The Admin Collective, to ensure admins around the world have a safe place to connect and grow in the admin profession. She knows and understands the admin community and its key companies, industries, and trends in the Australian market.
“Whilst I love a good specialist recruitment agency and I’ve stayed friends with some of the recruiters I worked with throughout my career in Australia, I wanted more than what one agency could offer me. I wanted all the agencies to have ALL the admin jobs in one place. So, I built what I was looking for.”
Admin Avenues is a website strictly for admin professionals because we deserve our own place and our own community. With businesses becoming more and more technological and complex, it’s hard to name a business that doesn’t have an admin professional in it. Administrative staff are vital to business and therefore, we knew the industry needed a niche specialist website that solely focuses admins.
By having a niche employment and community marketplace website, it narrows down candidates who are serious about wanting a career in this profession. It also saves time for companies and recruitment agencies who are hiring for these niche roles by narrowing the pool of candidates to only the admin community (no more random CVs from unqualified applicants).
Candice is an active admin advocate. Her commitment to the admin profession goes beyond her own businesses. She is a global speaker and is also a Board Director for the Australian Institute of Office Professionals (AIOP), Australia’s founding body who have just celebrated 60 years of supporting the administrative office profession. She is also a LGBTQIA+ straight ally and supports the Pride Foundation. Her pronouns are she/her.
In 2023, Candice and her friend Jessica McBride, The Tech Savvy Assistant, became co-hosts of the ‘The Future Focused Admin’ podcast. They hope to empower admins to reshape the profession for the future. Find out more at Candice Burningham.
“I am admin first and foremost. I advocate for the administrative community. I feel our role in companies hasn’t been seen for the true value it adds. For the longest time, people assumed we were note takers or just fetched coffee. I want to impart my knowledge, network and experience to bring up the next generation of admin professionals. I want them to know that being an admin professional IS a career. It’s not a stepping stone. There is real power and money in these roles. It’s a career that can take you around the world. It’s a niche skill that companies in every country require.”
