Quay Appointments are currently seeking a highly motivated, detail orientated and outcome focused Solicitor to join the legal team within a Government Organisation located nearby the South West & M5 Corridor Sydney NSW.

Job Role:
Interpreting legislation, reviewing and negotiating contracts, and providing clear and practical advice, committed to customer service.
Background information / Compatibility requirements
Play a key role in servicing the organisation’s legal requirements including providing expert drafting and advice to staff on a range of legal matters affecting local government, such as contracts, administrative law, public information, privacy, intellectual property, real property and planning.
You will also prepare reports, deal with subpoenas and draft or review policies and procedures, as required.
Essential Criteria:
• Degree qualification in Law or equivalent entitling to admission to practice as a solicitor or barrister in NSW.
• Admission to practice as a solicitor or barrister in the State of New South Wales and a current Practising Certificate.
• Extensive post admission experience .
• Experience in one or more of the following areas of law: commercial/contract, property, planning, intellectual property, privacy, administrative and local government law.
• Proven ability to assess and interpret information to formulate recommendations and provide specialist advice to enable the organisation to achieve quality outcomes.
• Specialist knowledge and proven legal experience preparing, reviewing and advising on a range of legal agreements.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, with a strong focus on providing quality advice.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills including experience in writing and producing advice, correspondence, reports, policies, procedures, legal briefs and submissions to a high standard.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated high level interpersonal and teamwork skills dealing with all levels of management and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships by influencing and negotiating outcomes
that add value to the organisation.

Desirable Criteria: (nice to haves but not essential)
• Experience in a government environment.
• Working knowledge of Court documents, processes, and protocols.
• Specialist knowledge and skills in interpreting legislation relating to Local Government operations, in particular Local Government Act 1993, Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Health Records and Information Privacy Ac 2002 and Public Interest Disclosures Act 1994.
• Broad policy skills with knowledge and understanding of government structures and inter-governmental relationships.
