Lucy Grisdale: Thank you so much for having me, it’s a real pleasure 😊

AA: You’re originally from South Africa. What brought you to Australia?

LG:  Yes I am originally from Cape Town in South Africa, and no wild animals don’t roam the streets haha. My Husband brought me to Australia, I feel very fortunate that we have been able to make Australia home.

AA: Still a Springbok supporter or have you lived here long enough to convert to the Wallabies?

LG:  Good Question!! If the Springboks play the Wallabies I would have to support the Springboks no matter how long I have been living here 😉 otherwise the Wallabies it is.

AA: OK let’s jump into it, how long have you worked in recruitment?

LG: I have been in Recruitment for 4 years now, Funny story….. I have not always been a recruiter. I actually studied for a Bachelor of Nursing degree specialising in Midwifery and Psychiatry. Since moving to Australia, I landed my first job in Nursing Recruitment and have loved recruitment ever since.

AA: Why do you personally care so much about your candidate’s journey in finding a role that is right for them?

LG: When I first arrived in Australia, I came across Recruiters who genuinely cared about me and my career and ended up placing me in various roles. I always thought to myself I would love to be able to do that for someone else and make someone else feel genuinely cared for and looked after during a somewhat stressful time of their life. This evidently got me into recruitment, and I love that I am able to give back based on my own experiences.

AA: Tell us more about WOW Recruitment’s approach to admin candidates.

AA: What do you consider to be the most rewarding aspect of your job?

LG:  Being able to be a part of a stressful yet rewarding part of a candidate’s life in securing new roles. I get a thrill out of placing candidates into dream roles and really couldn’t think of a better job. We spend so much time at work and it’s so important to be happy and feel valued in a workplace I love that it’s my job to find perfect jobs for candidates.

AA: What’s your recruiter super skills?

LG:  Creating Long Lasting relationships with candidates and clients.

AA: What are 3 items you can’t work without?

LG:  Definitely my laptop, Mobile Phone (Its glued to my hand) and a cup of coffee.

AA: What do you consider to be the most difficult part of your job?

LG:  By far having to tell candidates they have been unsuccessful in securing a new role. I value the importance of feedback and always give my candidates feedback so they can improve for next time but it never gets easier having these conversations.

AA: Can you recommend any helpful books, programs, or podcasts that you love?

LG:  I subscribed to Greg Savages blog and find the insights so relevant and inspiring.

AA: Do you have any tips that you would like to share?

LG:  Consistency is key, the more consistent you are with your processes the better your results will be.  never give up in Recruitment, you never know the next message or reach out could be a potential lead or future client.

AA: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

LG:  Be consistent, be authentically yourself, and never give up – you never know what’s around the corner.

AA: What advice would you give potential admin job seekers thinking about changing jobs?

LG: The advice I would give candidates would be to make sure dates are correct on your resume even if you are temping and get in touch with a recruiter like myself – it’s always a great idea to have us on your side when searching for a new role.

AA: What are your top tips for keeping your resume up to date and job-ready?

LG:  1. Keep your resume concise to 1-2 pages

  1. Place all relevant information you want a prospective employer to read at the top
  2. Always have dates on your resume
  3. Place your most recent and relevant work experience at the top of your resume
